Home Improvement Ideas You Should Be Considering

Multifuse Team • Oct 21, 2021

Your beautiful home has gone through a lot the past two years, and so have you! You both deserve some great updates which make everything look shiny and calm again. But, figuring out what to do first can be a big stressor. Sometimes it looks like there are a bunch of things which need updating at once. You know that anything foundational has to come first, like your actual foundation, termite bond, roof repair, and other things which protect your home. But after that, there are so many fun remodeling ideas and options! What are some home improvement ideas that you should be considering?

Siding Update

If it’s been a while since your siding has had a check, now is the time to do it. Your local contractor has the ability to double check any flaws or complications you might find. If it’s time to update a few pieces, they can be ordered and installed, often within a week or two. It’s always a good idea to check around if your contractor says it’s hard to find the siding you have in stock, of course. Sometimes a different source can be found relatively quickly. If you need a larger change, look into concrete based siding. While it looks like traditional siding, it’s less likely to sustain fire damage, is very sturdy, and comes in a myriad of colors.

Wall Colors

There’s nothing that ages a home faster than to be covered in beige paint! While twenty years ago beige, camel, and other shades of off white were the desired neutral, there are many other options for today’s homeowner. Accent walls have come back into style, and new peel and stick wallpapers can transform a wall in short order. Repeating motifs are the order of the day. As for wall paint colors, cool greys are popular, as well as warm rich tones like rich golds or jeweled blues.

Alternative Energy

There are a lot of great ways to use alternative energy in your home. This can include adding solar panels to your roof with the rebate perks which are around until the end of 2021. Geothermal energy is easy to install and highly sustainable, using the standard temperature of the earth to give you a simple solution for keeping your home’s temperature standard as well. Others, like propane, can be surprisingly acceptable as a sustainable energy source. Propane allows you more freedom when it comes to providers and how much you pay.

Bonus Space

If you have been home during a long pandemic with your family all working in one space and attempting to do virtual work at the same time, you probably have been dreaming about extra space. Whether this means adding on a room, or building out your basement , it’s not impossible to make that extra room a reality. This also can be a chance to determine how to make your spaces more functional. For example if you cannot add on a room or buildout into your carport, how can you minimize spatial needs in order to make it possible to do the things you need to do in a smaller amount of space.

Efficient Kitchen

When it comes to smaller kitchen remodels, you might not want to redo all of your cabinets or countertops yet, but you might need to think about the space you do have, differently. There are a plethora of options for making your existing kitchen work more effectively for you. Pull out drawer inserts and cabinet inserts can make it possible to utilize cabinet space which otherwise would go unused. Those deep, dark recesses in cabinetry can be reclaimed rather easily with just a handyman and a couple of hundred dollars!

Zoom Zoom

Look, this thing isn’t going away anytime soon, and so you already know that periods of remote work are going to be your new normal. Readjusting all of your work to create a decently lighted zoom space, whether for recording lectures or going to a work meeting, is annoying. Making a designated, clean, well lit space where all of those implements which are necessary already exist and are available readily is a great option for families during a pandemic. No more hunting down your ring light, better microphone and camera, or various other devices which make recording less of a chore.

Redo Important Options

If you’ve got a home you’re considering selling within the next few years, you want to make sure that you get a great return on your investment. Nothing makes a homebuyer happier than to know that they have a new HVAC system or roof, and nothing makes it easier to go through inspections than being able to quickly check new, quality machines. Ok, ok, a new HVAC doesn’t seem so sexy as a newly redone kitchen or new wallpaper—but in August, you will absolutely be grateful for your decision. Lowering monthly bills alongside having efficient and clean energy is a great option for a remodel, even if it’s not pretty.

Regardless of what home improvements you choose, and whether major additions or small things which make your heart happy, the most critical thing is that your improvements improve your life. Instead of making spur of the moment decisions, try instead to refocus your mind upon what you might need, both now and in the future. Your children might work best sharing a bedroom for sleeping and the family having an office to use. You might need adjustments to your general living areas, even removing, or just moving, some walls to make spaces more effective for your needs.

What matters is that your house needs to fit the lifestyle your family lives, and the need you have, both during a pandemic and beyond. Whether that includes wallpaper, paint, or other accoutrements is purely up to you! The most critical thing is that you enjoy your space and feel peaceful within it, knowing that it reflects the people who live there and their ongoing goals for life.
